The aim is to set off from Llangollen Bridge (GR SJ215 422) on the Saturday at 07:30am for a 34 mile circular walk visiting the summits around the Vale of Llangollen with views of Snowdonia, the mid-Wales mountains, the River Dee Valley and the Shropshire Hills (apparently). Highlights include: the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (the longest and highest aqueduct in Britain), Moel y Gaer (Welsh for ‘bald hill of the fortress’), and an Iron Age hill fort on the summit of Llantysilio Mountain. We’ll also throw in the medieval Castell Dinas Bran for good measure (though not officially part of the round).
For those interested in making a weekend out of it use campsite (Tower Farm www.towerfarmholidays.co.uk/index.html). I will be leading a road bike ride on the Sunday if there are any takers. Alternatively do your own thing as there are plenty of walking, on and off-road cycling, water sports or climbing options nearby. Please let me know by the Wednesday before [25th] if you plan to attend.
