Co-ordinator: The President
Plans are well advanced for the Annual Dinner over the weekend of 18-20 November. Our principal guest is Finlay Wild and he will speak on “Fast, light and loving it” on Saturday evening prior to the dinner (as last year). For those who don’t know Finlay, he is a GP based in Fort William and a phenomenal endurance athlete whose current records include the summer and winter Cuillin Ridge traverses, Paddy Buckley (solo and unsupported in 15h 14m 45s earlier this year) and the Ramsey Round. He is also an accomplished skimo skier. On Friday evening Jeremy Windsor is going to speak on “It’s nothing serious…a tale of injuries and illnesses in the mountains”. Jeremy is a leading light in the UK mountain medicine fraternity and has an impressive mountaineering CV including over 100 winter routes on the Ben, many alpine trips and several to significant Himalayan peaks. The hotel is busy this year, so if you have difficulty obtaining a room (you may find prices are up as all the cheaper rooms have been taken) please contact me by email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Saturday’s walk will be about 8 miles over Black Combe from the layby on the A595 opposite Beckside Farm (GR15386) starting at 10.30. On Sunday we will walk from the hotel towards Cartmel, the exact length and duration depending upon the weather and the inclination of those present!
The weekend also coincides with the Kendal Mountain Festival. This gives further options for activities over the weekend. I hope to see lots of you there…bookings are looking good! Finally, you can travel to the Cumbria Grand by train…it is just a 5 minute walk from Grange-over-Sands station!

Hotpot Walk and Annual Christmas Quiz John Beatty
This year’s annual winter walk and hotpot supper is based in the village of Bamford at The Anglers Rest Pub, and is two weeks earlier than normal, so Christmas starts here!
Meet up 9.45am for a 10.00a.m. start. There is good free parking at the Anglers Rest, but please use the upper section if possible.
Our walk will set off up Win Hill (hope I don’t fall over the edge this time!) along the crest to Hope Cross where we turn south into Jaggers Clough. At the stream crossing enter the wood on the left and take footpath through to Edale End farm. Cross the Edale road to footpaths leading towards Hope village. Take the footpath up by Hope Cemetery towards Aston Lane and return to Bamford Mill and the Anglers Rest via a series of field paths. The distance is around 10 miles max. (There are many alternative routes back from Hope via Lose Hill or Shatton Moor. But you can choose on the day!)
To book a meal please contact me directly by text to 07971-590210 or via email email@example.com.
Hotpot with apple crumble £12.00. (veggie option preference etc.) Pay on the day, but no refunds with less than 48hrs notice.

Wonders of Wigan Ian & Pauline Charters
Wigan is awash with industrial archaeology as well as other wonders and this will be a wander around the very best of the Wonders of Wigan. The Wigan Flight - 21 locks lifting the canal 200 feet out of Wigan - is well known, while Aspull Sough, a 17th-century mine drainage system, is almost a secret. We’ll visit both and if the weather is kind should see the largest baked bean factory in the world and try the best pies in Wigan.
Meet at SD630074 where there should be sufficient parking and we’ll leave at 09:30 intending to have lunch at The Raven in Wigan. Around 20km, mostly flat and probably muddy in parts. Bring a head-torch, just in case, and please let me know by Tuesday, 6th December, if you are coming. Contact details in the handbook.

Double Marsden Edale Andy Llewellyn
Usual format. Assemble at The Rambler Inn on Friday evening for a prompt start at 10 p.m. In total this is a walk of circa 50 miles, heading to Marsden overnight and then turning round and heading back with the main gang, arriving back in Edale around 4 p.m. Saturday - hopefully!
I will check with the pub nearer the time but they usually let us park in their car park for the weekend subject to a nominal charge which is payable at the bar. I will also try to persuade a kind person to provide breakfast for us at Marsden so please let me know if you intend coming along on the usual contact numbers as per handbook.
