Coordinator: Andy Howie
This year’s RC Navigational Challenge will be a repeat of the RC Challenge in 2019
and be held in Hayfield again on Saturday the 27th November, starting & finishing at
Bowden Bridge Car Park in Hayfield (GR SK 049 869) at the junction between Kinder
Road & Edale Road.
As with the previous RC Nav’ events, the plan is to meet at the starting point in
Bowden Bridge Car Park, with interval starts from 9.30am. The course will be a series
of checkpoints, around and about “Kinder” and her kindred fells. I will provide A4
Maps (& A3 for those requiring larger reading print), along with zip-seal plastic bags,
the maps will be marked up with the checkpoints. The course will be in the order of
12 to 18 miles depending on the route choices made by those taking part on the day
and how many checkpoints they visit. Those taking part can compete alone or with
others as they wish, all will require appropriate kit for the event, i.e. fell shoes or
boots, full waterproofs, hat, gloves, clothing for the weather conditions on the day,
compass, whistle and enough food to keep you going! There will be prizes for those
completing all of the course in the fastest time, plus some other prizes for “special”
efforts and achievements on the day.
Post event I’m suggesting that we all eat at The Sportsman Inn, just down the road
from Bowden Bridge, or The Royal or another Pub in Hayfield (lots of choice) as they
all do good food.
Regarding accommodation, Hayfield Campsite
www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/campsites/uk/derbyshire/highpeak/hayfield
is just across the road/river from Bowden Bridge Car Park and they will still be open
over the weekend, they have plenty of space with glamping pod options too, there are
also quite a lot of RC Members who reside in Hayfield and the surrounding area who
might be able to assist with camping and bed-space, for those wishing to stopover for
a more gentle walk over Kinder on Sunday, picking up a few of the controls and
visiting some of the “secret” places on Kinder.
Please contact me if you wish to take part on the Meet, my contact details are as
listed in the RC Handbook and if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate in
contacting me.
