A visit to the green desert of Wales. Depart Machynlleth rail station at 11.45 a.m. on the Saturday walking south before turning back north underneath Plynlimon to camp near to Glaslyn (SH 8294) and continue on Sunday to Caersws rail station (SO 0291). I will travel to this meet by rail (leaving Stockport at 8.20 a.m.). On Saturday I expect to walk around 15 miles with 800m of climbing. On Sunday I expect to walk east for 18 miles with only 450m of climbing. Shorter routes are possible depending on your inclination or the weather. Trains from Caersws return to Machynlleth hourly until 7 p.m. and to Stockport and Manchester at 3, 4 and 6 p.m. Explorer map 215 just about covers the route, or Landranger 135 and 136. The meet has been planned solely on paper so paths we find on the ground may differ to expectations from the map. Contact me for further details and confirmation of train times.
