21 - 23 July
Snowdonia Slate Trail Peter Edgerton
The Snowdonia Slate Trail is a circuit around part of Snowdonia, visiting many of
the places involved in the old slate industry of North Wales. Not only that but it will
be by public transport from Beudy Mawr, thus guaranteeing our green credentials. The
two sections to be explored will be as follows:
Saturday: Beddgelert to Tan y Grisiau
We take the S2 bus from Nant Peris – Pen-y-Pass (summer 2022: 0845 - 0855, 0900
or 0915) then S4 Pen-y-Pass to Beddgelert (summer 2022: 0935 - 0957 - goes to
Llanfrothen).
From there we walk to Tyn y Groes, which is 11.8 miles with the possibility of
collecting the odd Moelwyn en route and maybe walking on to Blaenau Ffestiniog. To
get back we take the T55 1650 Bus to Betws - 1715 then S1 to Nant Peris 1804 - 1840
or 1728 train - 1754 to Betws (2022 summer times).
Sunday: Blaenau Ffestiniog to Betws y Coed
We will either drive to Betws or get the S1 0815 - 0852 then take the T19 0950 -
1015 then walk through quarries to Cwm Penmachno and follow the route back to
Betws. The distance is approximately 16 miles.
There are S1 buses back at 1604, 1704, 1804 to Nant Peris if needed.
The hut is reserved for two nights over the weekend and I will prepare a meal for
Saturday evening, veggie (certainly) and possibly meat as well. Let me know
(rowanho@dircon.co.uk) if you wish to come along by 14th July.
