Same detail as last year: join me for about a 34 mile circular walk visiting the summits around the Vale of Llangollen with views of Snowdonia, the mid-Wales mountains, the River Dee Valley and the Shropshire Hills (apparently). Highlights will include: “the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (the longest and highest aqueduct in Britain), Moel y Gaer (Welsh for ‘bald hill of the fortress’), and an Iron Age hill fort on the summit of Llantysilio Mountain” (we’ve never actually found this but apparently it’s there). We might also throw in the medieval Castell Dinas Bran for good measure (though not officially part of the round. I aim to set off from Llangollen Bridge (GR SJ215 422) on the Saturday at 07:30am. For those interested in making a weekend out of it– our home is adjacent to a campsite (Tower Farm, http://www.towerfarmholidays.co.uk/index.html).There are plenty of walking, on and off-road cycling, water sports or climbing options nearby. Please let me know by the Wednesday before if you plan to attend.
