Newlands Circuit staying at Birkness Hut (FRCC) in Buttermere – Third time lucky!
This was one of the first Meets to be cancelled due to Covid in 2020. I tried again
in 2021, still not possible, so I’m hoping that in 2023 it will go ahead successfully! I
have booked spaces in this hut https://www.frcc.co.uk/venues/birkness/ for the
Friday and Saturday nights to walk the Newlands Circuit on the Saturday.
This walk will start and finish at the hut, leaving at 8 a.m. to head up Robinson on
the steep path directly opposite the hut. From Robinson we’ll go to: Hindsgarth; Dale
Head; across to High Spy; Maiden Moor and Cat Bells dropping down NW into Little
Town. Then back up onto Causey Pike; Scar Crag; Sail; Eel Crag; Wandope; Whiteless
Pike and back down into Buttermere village. I hope most people will do the full circuit
but it is possible to cut the route short either by dropping down to Honister from Dale
Head or by stopping in Little Town, but you’d need to sort your own transport to get
back to the hut.
I’ll provide a meal for Saturday night. There are only limited places available – ten
male and seven female, so please book on early to make reserve your place. (With
bookings from 2020, female places are all already fully booked but I may be able to
get a few more if needed, so do let me know if you’d like me to try to book additional
female places.)
