Canoe Meet – The Lancaster Loop

View Calendar
14/09/2019 - 15/09/2019 All day

This year’s plan is a day trip on the 26km Lancaster Loop which starts and finishes at Glasson Dock, catching the tide for 10km up-stream on the River Lune through Lancaster, then transferring to, and returning to Glasson, along the Lancaster Canal. The trip is one of contrasts with the estuarine start at Glasson Dock being open and wild, paddling through the historic city of Lancaster and returning via the rural landscape of Galgate and Conder. (Oo-err, get him!) The trip is suitable for both kayaks and open canoes but does involve portaging from river to canal and around 6 locks so wheels are a help, whilst unnecessary luggage a hindrance. We have 1 or 2 spare canoes between us so if you are interested but without boat, get in touch, we’ll try to find something appropriate for you. Finally, there is a saying that time and tide wait for no man – and it’s true! We must be ON THE WATER for 11:00 sharp!
