Co-ordinator: Gareth Williams
Craigallan is one of our very own huts, with an idyllic situation on the shore of Loch Linnhe, in North Ballachulish. Many of Scotland’s prime winter climbing venues are an option from Craigallan, with very easy access to Glencoe and Fort William, and Creag Meagaidh in reasonable striking distance. As always conditions can be variable in Scotland but mid-March is often a good time of year for some late-season ice on Ben Nevis.
For non-climbers there is a wealth of Munros and Corbetts nearby, with easy access to the Glencoe and Glen Etive hills, Glen Nevis classics such as the Ring of Steall and countless other options. For the more adventurous walker there are plenty of scrambling / mountaineering options such as the classic Aonach Eagach ridge.
This is a joint meet with the Karabiner Mountaineering Club and it would be great to have a good number of Rucksack Club members to show our guests around the hut and the local area. I am expecting a wide range of abilities/experience levels so please feel welcome to come along whatever your background. I also expect Craigallan to be very busy with members from two clubs attending, so please contact me to let me know if you're planning to come along. This will help with keeping an eye on how many bunk spaces are taken and also planning a communal meal for the Saturday evening.
I will be travelling up on the Thursday after work (hence arriving late) and staying 3 nights, departing on Sunday.
Note that we have two Gareth Williams in the club – make sure you contact Gareth R Williams if you intend to go!
