Upper Derwent Watershed Walk (recollecting the High Peak Marathon*)
Richard Bradbury
This will take in the parts of the watershed that the sadly demised High Peak
Marathon cannot reach. There won't be checkpoints manned by cheerful students
every few miles but we will have the benefit of daylight and hopefully better weather.
Start 8.30 a.m. at the track entrance at the east end of Ashopton viaduct (SK195 864).
The route is anti-clockwise via the usual HPM checkpoints, trigs and stones as far as
Bleaklow Head (Wainstones) returning on paths east of River Alport to Crookhill.
Approx. 25miles.
Please let me know if you’re intending to come – see the Handbook for contact
details. (AMs should contact the Editor or the AM Secretary to be put in touch.)
Anyone interested in walking or running the full Watershed please get in touch for
another time.
* The High Peak Marathon is a route of 40 miles first completed by Rucksacker
Eustace Thomas in 1918 – Ed.
