Hotpot Walk and Annual Christmas Quiz – Bamford, Hope Valley John Beatty
This year’s annual winter walk and hotpot supper is based in the village of
Bamford at The Anglers Rest Pub, and is on a Sunday and two weeks earlier than
normal, so Christmas starts here!
Our walk begins from the Anglers Rest Pub Car Park at 10:00 a.m. (meet up at
9:45) and proceeds up Joan Lane past my house and onward to Hurst Clough Lane,
then north towards Stanage. There is an optional route here, either head for Stanage
Plantation and Stanage Edge to Higgar Tor and Winyards Nick, or turn onto footpaths
in 150m, descending to Greens House and onwards above North Lees to Cattis-side
Moor and Carrhead Rocks. Footpaths link us to Toothill Farm and Mitchell Field,
Winyards Nick, Over Owler Tor and Millstone Edge. Cross the A6187 then cross beneath
the railway to arrive at the River Derwent and Leadmill Bridge. Here there are
options:
1. (shorter) Return alongside the river heading NW to Shatton.
2. Take the lane to Leam turning right at the tight bend above Hazelford Hall on to
footpaths past Hoghall and onward to Stoke Ford, cross the stream and ascend the
path to Oak farm, Abney Moor and Shatton Edge. Descend by paths steeply down to
Shatton.
The two options join at Shatton. Cross the road to take paths through to Bamford
Mill and the Anglers Rest in Bamford for a well-earned beer, Hotpot and Quiz. I will
send a map to all participants during next couple of months.
We hope to arrive back in Bamford for 4:30 p.m. as the Hotpot Supper will be
served at 5:00 p.m. with its usual Christmas Quiz fun and prizes!
