Marsden-Edale- Ian Helliwell
The annual winter challenge of 22 miles across the finest of the Dark Peak! Put the
date in your diaries and get ready to blow away the Christmas cobwebs and start the
new year in style.
The recent M-Es have been blighted by events beyond our control: in 2021 the
event was cancelled; in 2022 only Gareth Llewellyn completed it; in 2023 just Gareth
and myself (that's a 100% improvement!) Let's hope that this year there are no train
strikes and/or pandemics and that the weather is tolerable so we can get back to pre-
pandemic/rail-strike figures of around 25-30 completing the single.
Note: In 2023 Andy Tomlinson hastily arranged a two-halves-make-a-whole circular
from Edale for people to avoid the transport problems caused by the train strike. This
was of similar length/challenge to the single M-E and attended by 14 people - they
even managed to meet up with Gareth and me for the second half of our M-E! This
was a great effort and much appreciated in preventing the event from being a near-
total washout.
Meet as usual at Marsden at the end of Wessenden Rd (GR SE048107 OS South
Pennines OL 21 map) for a 7:45 start; finish at/near The Ramblers in Edale.
I'll add more details via the website nearer the date - so keep watching.
