This year we are making a circular tour of the eastern end of Hope Valley, including Bretton Clough, Higgar Tor and Stanage Edge. Here we can be assured of excellent walking choices that can be tailored to your liking on the day.
The Walk: If you’d like to convene for breakfast/tea/ coffee etc, the Rest Café in the Anglers Rest is open from 9.00am. Free parking in the pub car park. The main event is to walk from the Anglers Rest leaving at 10am. This year we will walk via Shatton Moor to Bretton Clough. Below Pot Hall we cross the River Noe at The Plough and find our way via paths to Millstone Edge and Higgar Tor. Stanage Edge to Crow Chin gives us our best chance to reminisce on the climbs we never did/fell off/or excelled, before crossing Bamford Moor and descending Bamford Clough. We should all be back in the Anglers Rest by 4.30pm for ‘early doors’ drinks. NB. Fast parties might like to descend to Yorkshire Bridge and make a rapid ascent of Win Hill! A map will be sent online to all confirmed attending the Meet. NB. Bad weather options: at The Plough we can return to Bamford via Thorpe Farm and Hurst Clough Lane, or upstream along the River Noe to Shatton and Bamford.
The Hotpot: Hotpot with veggie option and Apple Crumble is served from 5.15pm. Cost £10.00 payable to Jan Beatty on the day. Please confirm your order via text or email to John Beatty. The Christmas Quiz Our usual ‘terribly hard’ Christmas Quiz will convene during the dessert course of the evening. Prizes include John Muir Trust Diaries and Calendars. I hope you can all come along to the walk or just the Hotpot, and make it a splendid day out.
