Join me for a 11–15 mile moorland walk exploring Baugh Fell (676m) at a relaxed pace. This seldom visited hill lies in the northwest corner of the Yorkshire Dales and sits in splendid isolation. We will meet near Sedbergh, which is easily accessible from Junction 37 of the M6 motorway.
My exact route is still to be finally decided, but Baugh Fell promises an adventurous ‘off the beaten track’ day out. We will hopefully be treated to great views of the Howgill Fells and the main Dales peaks of Whernside and Ingleborough.
The famous Carlisle to Settle railway skirts the edge of Baugh Fell, as does the River Rawthey. This lively river, fed from the mosses and bogs on Baugh Fell, features waterfalls and plunge pools - but does mean we’ll surely end the day with wet feet!
Final walk details will be available nearer the time and will be published in the April 2025 edition of Meetstaff.
