This year’s Gogarth Meet is taking place on 20 & 21 June – no doubt it’s already in your diary (…and of course it will be if you’ve got a copy the 2026 Rucksack Club Calendar 🙂 )
‘Got away with it!’ was the headline from the 2025 edition, when despite a dodgy forecast 92 members, family, friends and guests came together for the traditional BBQ on Porth Dafarch beach – more in hope than expectation. The rain held off, a good time was had by all, and I didn’t end up with a van full of soggy sausages. We even got some climbing done!

Fingers crossed for better weather this year, especially as we’ll be hosting some of the visitors from across the world who are attending the BMC’s International Meet – I’ve promised the best crag on the planet and the friendliest club!
Beyond that it’s the same old formula that has served us well for the last twenty plus years. Come equipped with a rack & rope; a bike; kayak or pair of binoculars; or just a tube of factor 50 and a bucket and spade – whatever you need to ‘Get Out There!’ and work up a thirst / appetite. Bring your friends and family – the more the
merrier!
In terms of logistics, plans will be familiar to anyone who’s been along before:
Camping is pre‐booked at Valley of The Rocks Google Maps – you don’t need to book separately, but on arrival please let them know you are there. They’re offering a special rate for The Rucksack Club of £9 per person and are always very welcoming, so be sure to say Hi and thank you!
The Saturday morning rendezvous is the South Stack Café (as usual) Google Maps – They’re open at 10 a.m. NOTE there is now a parking fee at South Stack £6 per day. The machine now takes contactless (or you can pay in the café). Parking is free for RSPB members.
Beers and other aperitifs will be served on the beach at Port Dafarch from 7 p.m. Google Maps with food from 7:30 or thereabouts. No whinging if you are late and miss the hot food (or have to incinerate your own!) After a twenty year price freeze we’re bowing to the inevitable and asking for £7.50 to cover food and drink this year. Any surplus will be donated to CAC.
We’ll rendezvous at the café again on Sunday at 10 a.m. for another day of fun.
Let me know if you are planning to be there by completing this https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/3FfLcFAqGJ or scan this QR code
where you can also tell us whether you prefer your BBQ fare to be plant‐based or meaty; if you want me to try to fix you up with a climbing / walking / paddling / sandcastle buddy; or want or can offer a lift share!
Finally, some pics from last year to provide inspiration & psyche – See you there!
Cheers, Dom and Helen
