A very fine summer evening (at least in the context of  2017 which has stretched the definition of the world “summer” to new territory!)  Dry and midge-free cragging and even some sunshine later on. We ticked at least a dozen routes between us, including a couple of  top 50 classics (Spellbound and Witch Bane) a couple of E2s (Witchcraft  and Darkness) , and even a route by Tappers (Hell Hounds on my Tail by Club member Ian Tapley)!  Only the setting sun and thoughts of beer dragged us away from the crag!

Message from the President: At the end of July, Geoff Edge completed the Corbetts with his ascent of Conachcraig from the Spittal of Glen Muick

Just to let people aware that Gareth and Netty (owing to being able to get leave) are setting out a week early and so hope to arrive at the campsite either Saturday 12th or early Sunday 13th.

8 people braved the drizzle and threatening rain to complete the walk starting from Troutbeck Church.

The Wednesday evening climbing meet at Wimberry tomorrow (28th June) is cancelled due to the appalling forecast – rain, rain and more rain. Instead, Plan B: Awesome Walls (Stockport) is beckoning… Andy Stewart tells me he will be there from 6ish, it will be a bit later when I get there. Ian

The vision was a gentle version of our winter event, ambling along in warm sunshine, with plenty of hours of daylight, and noneed to rush. But as the day approached it was clear that the weather gods had other plans. Heavy rain and a stiff SW wind were forecast. But I was committed now, and so were 6 fellow Rucksackers. We travelled by train from Victoria, under dark clouds and steady rain. En route to Marsden Gerry Oliver, always the optimist, remarked that it was brightening up a bit. Someone pointed out that we had just come out of a tunnel. He seemed a bit deflated. Two more joined at Stalybridge, and 7 of us set off from the station at 8 am. The weather deteriorated as we slogged up to Seal Stones. Along the edge path and then just past the head of Blackden Brook, Tim guided us along a nice short cut over Kinder to meet the other edge path, the the descent down to Grinsbrook. The Rambler was gained just before 6 pm. Fish and chips and a pint or two rounded off a good day. (For the full report watch out for the next Meetstaff)
