Bleaklow walk this Saturday and other upcoming weekend meets

The forecast looks good for this Saturday so if you fancy a walk on Bleaklow please come along. We are meeting at Old Glossop (GR 046947) for a walk of 20 miles visiting a number of the
stones on and around Bleaklow and the Outer Edges, departing from Glossop at 8.30.
The pace will not be fast and there are a number of easy ways to cut out a few
miles along the way if a slightly shorter walk is more your thing. It would be great to
have a good turnout and we may even find a local hostelry at the end for a relaxing
pint or two. Please let me know if you intend to come along. Thanks Andy Llewellyn.

Then over the next few weekend the following meets are planned:

6 – 7 November. Youth Mountain Running Meet from Beudy Mawr. Coordinator Lewis Ashton
10 people already booked on the meet but there is capacity for more.

Youth is a (somewhat) flexible notion…. and so is running for that matter! The high ideals of this meet are to give younger runners the opportunity to spend some time
running in bigger hills to gain experience, to explore new places and maybe to do
something a bit more technical than a splash through a Pennine bog. Notwithstanding
the ‘youth’ tag, the meet is open to all runners; experienced heads and legs are as
important a part of the development process as neophyte enthusiasm and athleticism.
The down side is that I’d hope anyone over 30 would buy the beers for those under
30; The up side is this might slow them down!
The plan is to have a number of groups on each day catering for plans and
ambitions that range across: a bit of Paddy recycling, to a run and scramble round
something technical, or a trot over a few tops. Inevitably the weather will be glorious,
opening up wonderful possibilities. On Saturday night Lewis I’ll provide a vegetarian meal.

6 November Goyt Circular Walk Coordinator Gerard Cudahy

Ged is planning to do a walk of about fourteen miles (with an eight-mile variant)
using the Goyt for only half the walk but creating a loop out of and back in to Buxton,
hopefully where people haven’t been before, as I’m sure nearly everyone will be
familiar with the Goyt. We will start at 9:00am down the single-track Fern Road that
leads to Buxton Riding Stables, which leaves London Road about 30m south of the
Tesco garage. Parking should be possible in Fern Road, around SK 059 725. Please
contact Ged if you would like further details.

12 – 14 November Annual Dinner Meet at Cumbria Grand, Grange-Over-Sands The President

The meet is already booked to capacity and there is a waiting list. If you want to come along, and are not already on the waiting list, get in touch with the President pronto !
