Thanks to all who gave up their weekend to do jobs at Beudy. Steve and I really appreciate your help. A lot of hard work was put in so that Members and their guests can continue to enjoy the Beudy experience.

If anyone from the Manchester area is going to the hut in the near future, would you mind picking my jacket up so that I can collect. Jean Walker has confirmed it is there. Many thanks.

Just a reminder – if you are coming on Cec’s ‘do what you want’ climbing/walking/running/cycling/whatever weekend, he has delegated the Saturday evening catering to me (well, not delegated as much as I didn’t want to inflict his cooking on you!). Better let me know that you are coming – he’ll only forget to tell me! If you let me know by the Tuesday before (22nd May) I can lay supplies in. Thanks. PS Cec would have sent this reminder but he forgot ……!!

In May, the only booking we have is Cec Rhodes’ meet on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend of 26th/27th/28th (details in Meetstaff). In June, the annual working Meet is on 2nd/3rd (details in Meetstaff), Rachel Johnson has booked 4 places on 9th/10th and Mike Zeidan has booked the whole place for the following weekend, 16th/17th. Ed Bartlett has booked 2 spaces for the 30th. In July, Elizabeth Wilson’s Meet is on 7th/8th (details in Meetstaff) and Audrey Russell has booked 6 spaces for the Friday (20th) of her Anglesey Meet (details in Meetstaff). In August, Steve Gregory’s climbing Meet is on 18th/19th. So, as usual, plenty of opportunities for you to go to the hut. Let Steve or myself know if you intend going.

Mike Zeidan has booked the hut for the weekend of 16/17 June.

I’ve just been to have a look. It’s a bit cool in the breeze but the rock is dry. See you all later.

There are a couple of people staying the odd day or so this week. The place is empty then until the May Day weekend when the OBEC club have reserved exclusive use of the hut for their 52nd consecutive annual meet! Empty again until Spring Bank weekend when Cec Rhodes is running an ‘alternative’ meet for those who cannot make Inken’s meet i.n Scotland. In June there is the working meet on 2nd/3rd, then the hut is empty until 6th/7th July (Elizabeth Wilson’s Meet) apart from Ed Bartlett who has booked 2 spaces for the 30th of June. After that, the hut is empty until October, apart from Audrey Russell’s Anglesey Coastal Path meet on 21/22 July when some people might be using the hut on the Friday and Sunday. So, all in all, a pretty empty schedule for you all to plan your trips around!

For anyone looking for some inspiration for climbing this weekend, I’ve been browsing the Hut logbook. On the opening meet 70 years ago, Peter Harding and Norman Horsfield made the first ascent of Trilon on the Saturday and on the Sunday went up Spiral Stairs, then up and down Tributary Crack before descending Pharaohs Passage. On the way back to Beudy, they made the first ascent of ‘The Great Flake’ on the Grochan (now the first pitch of Sickle). Other routes climbed that weekend were The Gambit Climb, Avalanche/Red Wall/Longlands, Paradise Climb and The Cracks. Away you go!

Here are a few details. Food – ‘Granville’s Pop-up Kitchen’ will be operating on Saturday 21 April. Brews, cake and biscuits available from 2pm until 6pm primarily for our day visitors. Buffet service from 6pm onwards. Choice of chicken korma /vegetarian coconut and chickpea curries, chili con carne/non carne, all served with rice, naan Brad and jacket potatoes. Cake and custard for pudding. It’s going to cost Granville £5 to £6 per head for the food, so all donations will be welcome. Bring your own liquid refreshments and food for the rest of the weekend. Parking – Richard Griffiths, who owns the farm next door (left hand side) is very happy for people to park there. We’re trying to contact whoever looks after the house on the right hand side for more parking. Ian and Clair Wilson are staying at Cwm Glas Mawr – there is some accommodation available. Contact them for details. Activities – do what you want! We have 30odd people confirmed – if you haven’t told us and intend coming, let us know ASAP!
