Scottish Island Meet – Arran 8-10 September 2023

Andy is off on a Greek odyssey at this time and has asked me to take on his island meet. My plan is to camp at Glen Rosa which is about 2 miles from Brodick on the isle of Arran. The camp site is cheap (£5pppn – cash only) and basic (toilets and cold water only). It is a do your own thing meet and there are lots of great opportunities to explore the island by climbing, walking, running, cycling, swimming, etc. I plan to have a communal meal Saturday night (and possibly Friday) in Brodick. I will be walking up Goat Fell and exploring the mountains north of the island on Saturday and possibly cycling around the island on Sunday. I will be on the island from Thursday (7th) until Monday 11th. There are regular (at least 8 sailings per day except Sunday) with Cal Mac from Ardrossan to Brodick at a reasonable price (assuming you are without a car) and I believe bikes are free. There is no need to book at the camp site, but it would be good to have an indication of numbers. Hope you can make it so please let me know your intentions –[…]

25-30 May President’s meet – Scaladale Centre, Harris

I must confess to never having visited the Isle of Harris so I thought this year I would put that right. I have booked 20 spaces at the Scaladale Centre – https://www.scaladale-centre.co.uk/ between 25–31 May (5 nights), cost £17pppn, sleeping bag required. It is a self-catering outdoor education centre and hopefully we will be able to organise at least one communal meal. It will be a “do your own thing” meet. I hope to be ascending some mountains, possibly a bit of rock climbing/cycling and generally exploring the island. There could be endless outdoor swimming opportunities and possibly a day trip to St Kilda. Some places are already taken so they may book up fast. Please just let me know asap – I will need a deposit – details as per Handbook. Hope to see you there.
