Winter Indoor Climbing

Got no where with my last request for info – was told it was on the whats app group ( most members don’t even know there is a whats app group). So heres a suggestion – as in previous years just put up a calendar on the clubs Get Out There bit of the website as has been done for the last few years.. Perhaps someone on the committee would take ownership of this and not keep trying to fob me off – after all it is a club and not just little groups of members who organise things between themselves . So come on lets get it organised.

Gordon Adshead’s Memorial Service – Hotel Car Parking

Carole Smithies writes: Further to Gordon Adshead’s Memorial Service on 31st August – Hotel Car Parking We asked members to park at the hotel because of the limited space at the church.   Richard Evans and John Beatty have now been in touch with me to say they have each received a £60 parking fine from Parkmaven who administer the hotel car parks.  This seems to be because they didn’t register their car at the hotel.  [The car parks had signs about this and the registration machine was just outside the dining area.]  The good news is that when Richard rang the hotel to question this, they agreed without any problem to cancel the fine.  All they needed was the reference number on the notification and the car registration. So, if need be, ring the Pinewood Hotel [01625 529 211], explain you were attending the wake and all should be well.

Gordon Adshead’s Funeral Thursday 31st August 2023

Carole Smithies writes: I can now confirm the full details. The funeral will take place at St Chad’s Church Wilmslow Road, Handforth SK9 3ES on Thursday 31st August at 1115.  This will be followed by a Wake which will be held at the Best Western Pinewood Hotel, 180 Wilmslow Road Handforth SK9 3LF.  There is very little parking at the church, so the family have asked us to park at the hotel if at all possible, and then to walk to the church, [0.5 miles, 7/8 minutes].  We are of course welcome to drop people off at the church before we park up. If you haven’t already done so, please let me know if you will be at the funeral and/or wake, so I can let the family have final numbers. Contact details in Handbook.

Craigallan Problem – Help Needed

John visited Craigallan recently for a routine working visit and to investigate a report of a broken bed slat.  The bad news is that the bed slat has been infested with woodworm and, on closer inspection, there are holes in other slats and at least the slats on one other bed. The problem needs to be dealt with and John is unable to make another visit in the near future.   Paul Riley, with help from other Members, built the bunk beds is also away in France and so unable to help.  So, we could do with a volunteer or small group of volunteers to help out.  Paul as offered advice and John has provided a provisional task list: Lift off mattresses in one bunk room at a time. Remove all bed slats which show signs of infestation ie holes Burn the affected slats. Check bed frames for any signs of holes (less likely as they have been varnished). Obtain suitable timber to replace any slats removed and cut to length.  A visit to Oban will be needed to obtain the timber. Purchase suitable treatment fluid. Replace all slats which have been removed. Treat all timber on bunks, including varnished frames[…]
