Mini Adventure In Snowdonia – The High Camp

This is a final reminder of the adventure awaiting you this weekend. Spend the night on Mynydd Mawr under a perfect, moon-lit sky, spotting satellites and shooting stars in the presence of good company; 1 day of fun behind you and another lined up for the morrow. OK, so I have seen the forecast and it’s not so promising. Even so, I’ll be there from late afternoon until early morning. Come and join me via your own route, be it big or small. No need to contact me in advance, though it’s always nice to know that I will not be on my own…

Saddleworth 5 Trigs

If you are short of something to do and want to escape the crowds this Bank Holiday weekend, don’t forget the iconic 5 Trigs meet which leaves Greenfield for a 19 mile romp over the moors at 9am on Saturday 27th. Let me know if the pull of the wilderness proves impossible to resist!

Last chance to get your shots in the 2023 calendar!

Picking up on my last post, we’ve had to bring forward the deadline for submissions to END OF AUGUST – printing prices are going through the roof and we’re having to make a change for 2023, which means that the design will be an in-house effort from the Payne-Oughton team. We’ve already got a decent haul, but there are plenty of gaps to fill – especially in October through to January (but all good shots would be welcome!) so please have a rummage through your thumb-drive or facebook and send me your contributions NOW! – All of the many Club activities are fair game – mountaineering, climbing and walking of course, but also caving, ice-climbing, fell-running, cycling, kayaking, MTB etc… – Landscape format, full-resolution photos ideally featuring club members in action between Oct 21 and Sept 22 (I aim to have each month feature photos from the same month the previous year) – Extra bonus points if you are wearing a CAC T-SHIRT (haven’t got one – get in touch and we’ll sort that!) – Please indicate month – subject – photo credit, ideally in the file name eg “June – Andy Tomlinson on Black Slab, Stanage. Photo Tim Taylor.JPG”[…]

Mountain Boots. To give away.

One pair of mountain boots free of charge to a good home. They are in very good condition, were purchased used but then as new. I have only used them for winter climbing in the UK and have not done a lot of that in recent years. They have a fully stiffened vibram sole and are ideal for use with crampons. Thinsulate insulation, fabric and rubber upper. UK size 10, European 44.5, manufactured in Italy. I do not recognise the brand, but there is what looks like a F symbol in a mountain shape, followed by Outdoor, then Boulder-Montebelluma. Something equivalent bought new now would set you back £250. If you are interested, please E-mail me or phone 07878481541.

Beudy bookings update

With cancellations and last minute requests, I thought I’d give you a quick update. Plenty of room this weekend (just 3 or 4 people in), then we have ‘dads and kids’ in during the following week. It’s great to see Members taking their kids to Beudy ( I know the location is not ideal in some respects – on a main road, for instance) but we are looking at the future of the Club here and Steve and I are happy to encourage more use like this. Having said that, there is still space available. Similarly, over the Bank Holiday weekend, only Mike Zeidan ,Julie and little Evie have booked in up to now. September and October bookings are as previously published. In November, the hut has been booked by the Red Rope walking and climbing group for the weekend of 26th/27th. As usual, please let me or Steve Gregory know if you want to stay at Beudy.

Free climbing equipment

I’ve been contacted by someone who has some climbing equipment (nuts on wire, ice screws, cams, etc) and guide books to give away. That’s it, FREE. The person lives in Frodsham and is not a Rucksack Club member, not anyone I know but somehow picked up my contact details from info about the Helsby-Frodsham Day Meet back in June. E-mail me if you want the contact info: dave.atkinson27@gmail.com Thanks

Another Brilliant Beudy Bash!

Huge thanks to Steve for organising another brilliant meet at Beudy – excellent catering and banter, as ever, accompanied by stunning weather (not always as guaranteed!). Also a great opportunity for a CAC / “Get Out There!” T-shirt photo-shoot – if you feel your wardrobe is lacking the essential garment for summer 2022 then get in touch with your size and colour preference – you don’t have to be a climber to wear a CAC T-shirt! Also great to explore a couple of new (to me and quite new to the world) crags. More pics to follow on www.rockaroundtheworld.co.uk
