I have reserved space at this self-catering hut in the village of St Jakob in Defereggen for 7-14th July. It has a mixture of double rooms, twin rooms, dormitories sleeping 8, and a couple of single rooms and a room for 4; fully equipped modern kitchen, recently built shower and washroom wing, supermarket just round the corner, bus service, and a couple of restaurants. Wifi across the road in the council office. There is not much parking space outside but there is a car park round the corner. More details at https://www.alpenvereinaktiv.com/de/selbstversorgerhuette/barmer-haus/7242129/ including location and suggested tours. Use as a base for day walks up to peaks such as the Deferegger Pfannhorn 2820m, the Seespitze 3021m, Almerhorn 2985m, or do a multi-day tour of some local huts with or without some peaks. Numerous valley-based walks on well-maintained paths and tracks, using the bus service up the valley for access. Climbing at the Hundskofel and s’Kasermandl near the village, at Arnig near Kals, and Falkenstein east of Matrei – Glanz. Via ferrata: Blauspitze from Grosdorf, Kals; there are others but these are further away. Let me know if you are interested and I’ll send you the price list. It’s your cheapest[…]

Hello SunRockers! The votes are in, and there’s plenty of interest in more sun and rock in 2018, with most of you happy to ‘go with the flow’! Of those who had a preference, the clear majority are in favour of Plan B so next year’s SunRock Meet will be in the Sierra de Prades in Catalunya in mid-March – exact dates to be confirmed shortly. Here’s a bit more information to whet the appetite: The Sierra de Prades aka ‘Costa Dorada’ or ‘Tarragona’ includes iconic crags like Siurana, Margalef, Montral, Arboli and La Mussara amongst the offerings, see http://www.climb-europe.com/RockClimbingSpain/Sierra-de-Prades.html . With over 5,000 routes in the area, there are plenty of options. Flights into Barcelona are regular and cheap – from £40 return! I’m now starting to explore accommodation options, so it would be useful to get an idea of numbers. Please let me know whether to ‘count me in’; ‘keep me posted’ or ‘stop tempting me’. We’re unlikely to find somewhere quite so palatial as our usual Costa Blanca pad so it’ll be first come first served if we have a capacity issue, though I’ll try to find nearby overflow options if needed. Cheers Dom and Helen www.rockaroundtheworld.co.uk

The heater in the drying room is not working. Please DO NOT USE until we have investigated the matter. If you need to dry kit, light the stove in the lounge and use the clothes horses which can be found in the drying room area. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Good progress is being made in completing the next Outdoor Programme, however there are still a number of weekends free. I am therefore looking for volunteers to co-ordinate meets. So if you are a ‘veteran’ of such things or even better if you haven’t organised a meet before what a great way of getting yourself ingrained into the Club activities …… so don’t hold back, let that germ of an idea flourish into a fantastic meet for us all to enjoy. Please contact me on email: andy.lou64@virginmedia.com or on the usual phone numbers. I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks Andy Llewellyn
