Summer has been late arriving, but it will surely put in an appearance for the Rucksack Club`s July programme:
- We begin the month with a joint meet with the Wayfarers` Club at our wonderful Lake District hut, High Moss, which will be the base for all manner of outdoor activities.
- A week later we have a weekend focussed on open water swimming, based at our cosy hut in Eryri. The big challenge will be a double-length swim along Llyn Padarn - are you up to it? No problem if not, we have some shorter-length swims in prospect.
- The month culminates in our President`s Meet, which this year takes the form of a challenge to complete the Peak Classic Rock Routes - all 12 routes, 17 pitches and 60km of cycling, from Hen Cloud to Stanage - in a day. We will be based at a campsite conveniently placed for post-event celebratory refreshment.

Brilliant to see so many people at Gogarth last weekend. Around 80 members from @therucksackclub @pinnacleclubuk and Gritstone Clubs plus various friends and family made the journey (pilgrimage?) onto Holy Island, despite the cruddy forecast. We were rewarded with wall-to-wall sunshine and a stupendous beach BBQ.
We achieved our Everest Challenge raising funds for @climbersagainstcancerofficial
On the fundraising front, we`re only just out of Base Camp, having raised just over 50% of the £884.80 target (10p for every metre of Everest) It would be great if you could chip in for the Summit Push.

- A father and son ascent of the eponymous Gogarth

June may be a short month, but for Rucksack Club meets it`s a long month, with five meets!
- We begin the month with a working meet at Beudy Mawr, our hut in the heart of Snowdonia, when members will congregate to keep the hut in good order ready for another year. Of course it`ll be a great social occasion also, with opportunities to get out onto the hills too.
- A week later the focus moves to High Moss, our hut in the Duddon Valley, for a weekend road cycling meet. Plenty of opportunity for hill-climbs...
- Then it`s back to North Wales for our biggest outdoor meet of the year, our annual gathering at Gogarth. With cliffs to climb, headlands to walk and beaches to relax on, it`s sure to be a great weekend. Go for a climb, explore the area or take part in a beach yoga session - but don`t miss the beach barbeque!
- Only a few days later we have another meet at our Lake District hut, with great opportunities to enjoy the surrounding fells then enjoy convivial evenings in the hut.
- Finally we have an ingeniously-planned meet that will explore sites associated with the once-huge slate industry, based at our Beudy Mawr hut. The twist is that we will use public transport, local buses and perhaps a train, to access our walking routes.

For this month`s "Dip into the Rucksack Club Journals" we’re back in 1994, and featuring Paul O’Reilly’s account of an epic with Andy Stewart and a pal in the Wind River Range: A War of Attrition on the War Bonnet.
This edition also features Mike Cudahy’s continuous Munro round, various Alpine Adventures and trips to Ama Dablan and the Cedarberg Mountains. Wow - "Get Out There!"

May often has the best of the spring weather, so the Rucksack Club has a burgeoning programme to take full advantage:

- We start the month with a week-long joint meet with the Climber’s Club at Craigallan, our Scottish hut close to Ben Nevis and Glencoe. With some of the most spectacular routes in the UK on the doorstep, this looks set to be a fantastic meet.
- Just days later we have another joint meet, this time with the Lancaster University MC, but in Wales rather than Scotland and at our cosy Llanberis hut, Beudy Mawr.
- A week later we move to England and our recently-refurbished Lake District hut, High Moss. The theme of the weekend is mountain biking, but no doubt some on the meet will enjoy other activities from this beautiful location.
- We conclude the month with a three-day bike-packing circuit around the Cairngorms, starting in Blair Atholl and passing through Aviemore, Tomintoul and Braemar. That should stretch the legs!
