May often has the best of the spring weather, so the Rucksack Club has a burgeoning programme to take full advantage:

- We start the month with a week-long joint meet with the Climber’s Club at Craigallan, our Scottish hut close to Ben Nevis and Glencoe. With some of the most spectacular routes in the UK on the doorstep, this looks set to be a fantastic meet.
- Just days later we have another joint meet, this time with the Lancaster University MC, but in Wales rather than Scotland and at our cosy Llanberis hut, Beudy Mawr.
- A week later we move to England and our recently-refurbished Lake District hut, High Moss. The theme of the weekend is mountain biking, but no doubt some on the meet will enjoy other activities from this beautiful location.
- We conclude the month with a three-day bike-packing circuit around the Cairngorms, starting in Blair Atholl and passing through Aviemore, Tomintoul and Braemar. That should stretch the legs!

April is often a great month in the hills, so the Rucksack Club has a succession of meets to take advantage of the opportunities:
• Our Easter Meet is at our own hut close to Glencoe, from where parties will no doubt venture onto Ben Nevis, the Glencoe hills and all manner of wild terrain such as across Loch Linnhe in Ardgour. The evenings will be warm social gatherings, with some home-grown entertainment in prospect!
• On Sunday 14th April we will meet for a day walk of 21km over the hills south of Whaley Bridge - to be concluded with post-walk refreshments at a local pub.
• We have a climbing meet planned for 20th April, weather permitting. Our objective will be some of the Peak`s least-visited western gritstone edges north of Leek.
• Then we have a weekend booked at the enchanting Bryn Hafod hut in mid-Wales, just east of Cader Idris. In addition to the chance to enjoy that great hill, there is the opportunity to explore the less-visited Aran hills.
• Finally, and extending into May, we have a joint meet with the Climbers` Club at our Scottish hut near Glencoe. This is a `return fixture` to complement our previous joint meet with the Climbers` Club at their hut in Cornwall last year. It provides an opportunity to enjoy some of the most rugged mountains in Britain during springtime.

March will be a very busy month for the Rucksack Club; look what we`ve got coming up!
Over the first weekend of the month, we have an Associate Members` Meet at our superb Lake District Hut, High Moss. This weekend gives Associate Members - those in our open/ introductory tier of membership - the opportunity for a weekend in the hills when they can meet others and find out more about joining the Club as full members. If you are interested in Club activities (for more information see the website www.rucksackclub.org), get in touch ASAP to become an Associate Member and book a place on the meet; it`s an opportunity not to be missed!
The same weekend we have a Winter Climbing Meet at our Scottish hut near Glencoe. Judging by conditions at the end of February, there are great prospects for challenging winter climbing in snow and ice.
The following weekend one of our most accomplished lady hill runners will be hosting a `do-as-you-please` meet at our Lake District hut. Running will be just one of the opportunities on offer.
Just a few days later, we have a wild plan for a long weekend in Chamonix, aimed at tackling a particular route that has obsessed three of our members for some years - will fortune favour the brave?
Whilst some are off to Chamonix, other members will be taking advantage of another meet at our Scottish hut to make the most of this winter`s snow.
Finally, for Easter we return to our Scottish hut, hoping that the snow will last but confident of great evenings of conviviality, whatever the weather.
