A huge thank you from Climbers Against Cancer – £4,500 raised last year!

We’ve reached the end of the ‘calendar selling’ season and I’m delighted to report that sales of the 2024 charity calendar have raised over £3,500 for Climbers Against Cancer. If you roll in the profits from sales of the joint CAC / Get Out There! merchandise then we’re looking at around £4,500 that will go to funding cancer research and support for those living with and beyond the disease.

I thought you might like to know about some of the projects we’ve been able to fund, supported by the great generosity of the members of The Rucksack Club (and others who’ve bought the calendar).

·         Monaco Scientific Centre to fund the CSM’s research into paediatric cancers and brain tumours

·         The Ledge, Inverness, with Scottish Highlands NHS, piloting the use of climbing to help those recovering from cancer

·         Institute for Biological Research at the University of Belgrade, investigating new cancer treatments

·         Prostate Cancer Research, funding the ReMove pilot to encourage patients to exercise

·         Breast Cancer UK, enabling one of their ‘seed projects’ to look into breast cancer prevention

…and ‘in the works’ are projects in Nepal (on paediatric radiotherapy training to enable effective treatment of young people), and Tanzania (supporting nutrition in combination with paediatric chemotherapy). It’s been quite a year!

As a token of gratitude from the CAC Trustees, they’ve created a ‘Coupon Code’ in the CAC Shop

which entitles members to 20% off everything in the CAC Shop. Keep your eye out for an email in your inbox with the code.

Thanks! Dom
