The 2023 Calendar has arrived!

The eagerly anticipated 2023 Rucksack Club Charity calendar – in support of Climbers Against Cancer – has just rolled off the press, just in time for the stocking-filler / calendar-buying season. This years edition has contributions from over 70 Rucksackers (in front of and behind the lens), and post-pandemic it’s great to be able to report that EVERY SHOT was taken in the equivalent month of the previous year. What a tremendous demonstration of the diversity and vitality of The Club! I might be a bit biased, but I think it’s the best yet, and the quality of the images that have been contributed by Rucksack members is at the heart of this.

I know you are itching to get your hands on a copy (or copies!), and I will follow up with a post with all the details shortly. In the meantime, this is a huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed photos, and especially those whose photos didn’t make the final cut into the calendar. We had about three options for every one of the available 50 or so slots (more or less, depending on how active that particular month was) and it was a desperately difficult job to make a final selection. We were guided by the criteria that it should be an action shot, featuring Rucksack Club member(s) in one of the Club’s activities, in landscape format and high resolution, and taken in the relevant month of the previous year (with a CAC / Get-Out-There! T-shirt winning extra points!) Within this, we’ve tried to select the best shots, whilst achieving a balance of activities and including as many Rucksackers as possible.

The following gallery features pretty much every shot which didn’t make the final print version, and you’ll see that we could easily have had two spectacular and totally different calendars – such was the quality of your pics. Many thanks for your contributions and please don’t be put off next year, in fact get snapping and sending in now (the autumn and winter months are hardest to fill so you’ve got a better chance!)

Cheers, Dom

  1. Well Dom…what a fantastic effort and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy given the quality of photos you left out! You deserve a huge thank you from the Club for encouraging us all to contribute and then setting about the difficult task of choosing the final pictures and getting it all together…along with the inevitable help from the Assistant Editor for everything, JP!
