Pyrenees Meet 2018 – Update

The Pyrenees meet planned for August, is, well, er, still planned. But a few unfortunate events have required to change the campsite. Since the original Lescun campsite is closed for refurbishment, we will be moving a few kilometres south on the plateau de Lhers: http://www.gite-camping-lhers.com/ I have made some arrangements with the owner, there should be enough space for around 10 people, and there are a few more options around if a mass of rucksackers were to suddenly arrive. So far 6 people (plus myself) have manifested their interest in coming. Every one is very welcome! A few general updates: There have been a few massive storms and floodings in the area in the last month and as a result some roads have been heavily damaged, including someof the classical Tour de France passes. If you are interested in cycling, you might want to check the state of the roads in the area. In particular, the road to Gourette is still closed at the moment (but should be fixed in the next weeks) Some campsites have also closed due to the damages I will be there from the 4th to the 11th or 12th. If you have any question/inquiry/threat contact[…]

Pyrenees Meet 2018

Hello all, Currently starting to look at the camping places for this summer meet (4th to 12th August, Lescun). If you are interested, could you fill in this quick survey? https://doodle.com/poll/pstw538gb2p2dkrz I know it’s still early to know for sure for many people, but given the limited size of camping spots in the area, I’ll try to book something in advance even if it means making modifications later on. However, having a rough idea of the number of people interested would be helpful. For the moment this is my choice for the camping spot http://www.camping-gite-lescun-pyrenees.com/ Please note my coordinates have changed (to be published in the next meetstaff), if you need to contact me for any info Phone: +33 6 29 38 43 50 Email: alexandre.bourdeu@gmail.com (but I’ll keep checking my fromer address)

Summer Alpine Meet 2018

I am planning an “Alpine” Meet next summer in the Western French Pyrenees. This would be between the 4th and 12th of August, in the vicinity of Lescun, south of Oloron-Sainte-Marie. The exact details have yet to be defined but the idea would be to give a glimpse of the limestone area of the Aspe valley. This is a fine place for climbing, walking, cycling and probably kayaking. Climbing The excellent Aiguilles d’Ansabère provide some very nice multi-pitch climbing on sculpted limestone. The most famous route is the Spigolo on the petite Aiguille, supposedly reminiscent of the Dollies (or the other way around) The other big spot in the valley for long multi-pitch is Pène d’Udapet, once again on good limestone There are quite a few more routes on the Chemin de la Mâture (some nice slabs there) More climbing crags around: http://grimpeursbearnais.blogspot.de http://escalade64.fr Mountaineering Lescun Cirque is a bit poor in terms of long quality mountaineering routes, but there’s still some stuff out there like the Larangus Arete on Grand Billare However going over to the next Ossau valley stands Pic du Midi d’Ossau with all sorts of routes of every difficulty. Some topos here: http://www.remi-thivel.com/toposmontagnepyreneesnord.html and here https://www.camptocamp.org/waypoints/176533/fr/pic-du-midi-d-ossau[…]
