Tuesday 14 March – Success and Failure: Expedition Alpinism with Will Harris and Baffin Big Wall climbing with Neil Chelton – Zoom

The season finale will feature two thrilling tales of new routing in remote and extreme environments: Will Harris is a British Mountain Guide, based in Chamonix, a highly accomplished Alpinist, and a Rucksacker. He’s made numerous lightweight expeditions in the Greater Ranges and is going to talk about success and failure in alpine climbing in general – with tales and photos from lots of times when it went wrong as well as once or twice when it went right. 2023 Rucksack Club Charity Calendar in support of CAC – Buy yours NOW!

The 2023 Rucksack Club Charity Calendar in support of Climbers Against Cancer is on the shelves now! Thanks to the generosity of The Club, every penny of the purchase price will go to support Climbers Against Cancer in funding research around the world. That’s right – think of it as making a £10 charity donation and getting a free calendar! Fifty photos taken from the equivalent month of the previous year feature members enjoying the whole gamut of Club activities: climbing, mountaineering, bouldering, fell-running; ice-climbing and via ferrata among other things. From The Matterhorn to The Ben; Gogarth to Georgia; and Cornwall to Chamonix, there’s something for everybody! Through the worldwide climbing community, CAC https://www.climbersagainstcancer.org/ aims to increase awareness and raise funds for research in the continued fight against a disease that affects so many. Climbers Against Cancer is a non-profit organisation, with all proceeds donated directly to cancer research facilities throughout the world. The 2023 Calendar has arrived!

The eagerly anticipated 2023 Rucksack Club Charity calendar – in support of Climbers Against Cancer – has just rolled off the press, just in time for the stocking-filler / calendar-buying season. This years edition has contributions from over 70 Rucksackers (in front of and behind the lens), and post-pandemic it’s great to be able to report that EVERY SHOT was taken in the equivalent month of the previous year. What a tremendous demonstration of the diversity and vitality of The Club! I might be a bit biased, but I think it’s the best yet, and the quality of the images that have been contributed by Rucksack members is at the heart of this. I know you are itching to get your hands on a copy (or copies!), and I will follow up with a post with all the details shortly. In the meantime, this is a huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed photos, and especially those whose photos didn’t make the final cut into the calendar. We had about three options for every one of the available 50 or so slots (more or less, depending on how active that particular month was) and it was a desperately difficult job[…]
