Wild Camping in the Uk

As a club we have always wild camped from the easier High Camp to the intrepid igloo meets. Now it seems you can book to camp in the Lake District National park through UKwildcamp.org – you have to book and PAY. The site also emphasises that it is ILLEGAL to camp in the national parks. Don’t know what our so called national body is doing about this. Perhaps the committee should look at it – we might have to go back to having a mass trespass – i know some members can remember the original ones in the Peak. I guess this is all part of the present governments agenda to get us to pay to access our countryside!

Pule Hill Meet

About 10 people turned out for the Wednesday outdoor climbing meet at Pule Hill and was great to see some new faces. Pule Hill lived up to its reputation with as stiff breeze at the top of the crag, but was fairly sheltered at the base and in the quarries. The rain more or less stayed away and ended up with a stunning sunset. I didn’t manage to get too many photos as I was enjoying climbing with my daughter, the paraglider’s over head were a couple of friends, if it had been too windy the son would have been climbing with us too. Scull Climb Right Hand and Andy Stewart on Iliad. Andy Stewart on The Great Scoop. Gaining the top of the classic Amen, one of the bests V-Diffs in the area. Overhanging Arete Plenty of routes climbed both in the quarry and on the natural edge followed with a pleasant warm up in the Hanging Gate Inn which is now probably the nearest pub to the crag. Next weeks meet is at Stanage High Neb.
