Virtual Indoor Meet – Tuesday 14th April – A Scottish Odyssey

It was fantastic to “see” so many of you at the Club’s first ‘virtual’ indoor meet. I counted over 130, including many from around the country, or elsewhere in the world (including Chamonix and New Zealand!), who wouldn’t have made it if we’d been at Heaton Moor Rugby Club. Perhaps there’s a small silver lining to the current weird situation.

For those of you who couldn’t make it, you can enjoy the outputs on ‘catch up’ here: https://vimeo.com/406157475

If you had technical issues joining the meeting then get in touch and I’ll try to talk you through some troubleshooting and we can get you onboard next week.

Talking of which, I’m really looking forward to our next Virtual Indoor Meet!

Joe Fisher and Andy Barlass will be sharing a tale of ‘There and Back Again – A Scottish Odyssey” on Tuesday 14th April. The show will start at 7:30pm prompt, with ‘doors open’ at 7pm to give you time to get settled, grab the best seats and perhaps have a chat with everyone else, or at least say hello!

Here’s the link to join the meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/299228028 Meeting ID: 299 228 028 but you’ll need to enter a password to keep the web-bots out (the year of the Club’s founding) Alternatively, and easier, check your email for a special link that overrides the need for a password. When you sign in it would be useful if you would include your name, so people know who’s there! Also, be aware that your audio will automatically be on mute when you join the meeting (you can un-mute yourself at any time) and that the slideshow (but not the pre-show gathering) will be recorded and shared publicly later. If you don’t want to appear in this then please pause or stop your video feed [and also perhaps if you are tucking into your dinner whilst watching ;-)]

Looking further ahead, we’ve got a fun-packed program coming together:

21st April – Will Harris will be sharing some Expedition Experiences

28th April – Member’s photos and reminiscences (get in touch to volunteer for a 5 to 15 mins slot and send me some photos, or perhaps you’d like to read an excerpt from a favourite Journal article?)

5th May – Phil Smith, Mark Jenneson and Rich Clegg will be talking about what happened when ‘Three once-a-year weekend warriors go to Chamonix’

12th May – Andy Stewart and Debbie Whittaker will have the low down on their ‘Never Again! bike ride in Ladakh

Beyond that, we’re in negotiation with the image rights and marketing people behind numerous other top presenters, with themes such as the Alpine 4,000-ers, Wild Mountains, Great North Walls and St Kilda on the radar, not to mention a Virtual Quiz. Watch this space and get in touch if you’ve got a story to share!

Meanwhile, Stay Safe and Stay In There!

Cheers, Dom
