Beudy – the alternative Alpine Meet

For those of you unable to get to Ailefroide for the Alpine Meet, you can always use the Club’s own ‘mountain refuge’ to explore the Welsh Alps without having those tiring marches just to get to the hut. Savour the views of Eryri from the front, knowing you don’t have to get up at silly o’clock to get on the routes – they’re on your doorstep! There’s plenty of room available and no resident Gardien to moan at you for not putting your boots in the right place. You can usually find somewhere to escape the snorers too. As ever, let me know when you want to book your Welsh Alpine trip.

What’s been happening at Beudy

Well – for a start, we’ve now got full fibre broadband at Beudy, so you can now check the weather forecast, the bus timetables and look at the latest mountain safety information. Oh, and you can doomscroll to your heart’s content! Due to the thickness of the walls, the signal does not reach the shower block, so those of you who habitually read the digital paper whilst sat on the toilet won’t be able to (it’s a disgusting habit anyway!). I’m sure I can rely on you to use the facility wisely and tactfully. The Committee has also approved the proposal to split the big dormitory into two smaller spaces, each sleeping 4 (or maybe 5) people. This is an attempt to increase the attractiveness of Beudy to smaller groups who might want their own space – families, genders, snorers, etc. The work will be carried out towards the end of the year when usage is even quieter than normal. Lets see how it goes! And – I’ve saved the best until the last – there is a dual tray airfryer in the kitchen! It’s already had the thumbs up from lots of people (well, they both said it was[…]

Beudy bookings update

For those of you who are not going to High Moss this month, here’s how it’s looking at Beudy in July. Couple of parties in this coming weekend (5th/6th) but still room. There’s a midweek booking and then regular visitors OBEC have booked the whole hut the next weekend (12th/13th). Veterans in Sefton have one of their sessions from Wednesday 16th to Friday 18th, and then the hut is empty until the end of the month, apart from Joe Fisher’s group of 3 on the last weekend (26th/27th). Why not try out the new airfryer and – even better (but not for some) – the Wifi! You can check out availability by looking at the Hut Bookings Calendar on the website. As ever, let me know if you plan to go.

Beudy bookings update

Here’s how it’s looking for the next few weeks. Plenty of room this coming weekend, just a couple of people in. Rather more the following weekend (Bank Holiday) but still bunks available. Peak CC are in over the weekend of 7/8 June, using the big dorm, leaving the ‘Members’ room available. Then it’s the annual working meet the following weekend (14/15 June). Details in Meetstaff. Let me know if you intend coming. There is an exclusive ViS session from the 18th to 20th. The hut is fairly full that weekend (20/21) but spaces are available. At the end of the month (28/29 June), it’s Richard Wilkes’ Welsh 3’s Club Meet. Contact Richard direct if you intend going. For all other bookings, just send me an email either to billdeakin@yahoo.com or (preferably) beudymawr@rucksackclub.org.

Beudy bookings update

Just to let you know what’s happening over the next few weeks – this coming weekend (11th-13th) our old friends, OBEC are in residence. There are still places available for the Easter weekend – at the moment only 5 spaces have been taken up. The weekend after (25th-27th), the hut is fully booked and then we’re into the Early May Bank Holiday weekend for Andy Stewart’s Meet. There are a few spaces left – please let Andy know if you intend to go – he needs to know how much veggie chilli he needs to make for the Saturday night meal. The weekend after (9th-11th May) the hut is pretty well booked up. As ever, let me know if you want to go at any time.
