Stop Press – Beudy available on the weekend of 19-20 August

Gareth Williams’ joint meet with the Karabiner Club, advertised as being at Beudy in the Handbook, is being held at High Moss. Contact Gareth direct if you intend going. That means Beudy is available on that weekend. Not only that, the hut is available all the week before and all the week after – nearly a fortnight! Forget being fried on the Continent, come to Wales and enjoy the sun soaked crags and hills without all that airport/ferry /bag handlers/ air traffic control hassle. Did I say ‘sun’ soaked? Remember to bring the waterproofs! There again, the drying room is quite efficient. Bring the kids, bring the missus and come and have your Summer holiday at Beudy. As ever, let me know if you want to book – I’m expecting a rush, so don’t delay!

Beudy bookings update

Peter Edgerton’s Club Meet has been postponed so the weekend of 21 – 23 July has become available. Still plenty of room at the hut over the next few weeks. To check availability, log in as a Member and go to the ‘Huts’ section. Click on ‘Hut availability’ and you can see the current bookings situation, going right through into next year. Just click or hover over a date and booking details come up. Solid green squares indicate that the hut is free.

Beudy Mawr 75th anniversary meet this weekend

A bit of an update. At present, all the bunks in the hut have been taken and, if everyone turns up who has said they want to attend the anniversary meal on Saturday, there will be 23! Granville will be cooking and we’ve gone for a typical 1940s menu. If you are coming, don’t forget any other provisions, drinks and a pillow! The forecast is looking good, which prompts me to suggest that if any climbers want to repeat the routes done on the 1948 weekend, they need to do Trilon and Crackstone Rib on the Wastad, Nea and the ‘Great Flake’ (now the first pitch of Sickle)on the Grochan, Spiral Stairs, Tributary Crack (up and down) and Parchment Passage (down) on the Cromlech, The Cracks on the Mot, Gambit Climb on Clogwyn y Ddysgl and Avalanche/Red Wall/Longlands and Paradise on Lliwedd. Phew – there’s a challenge! Whilst no walks were recorded in the log book that weekend, I cannot believe that such an occasion would not be marked without forays over into Ogwen and across to Yr Wyddfa.

Beudy Mawr – possible alterations to main dormitory

Steve Gregory and I are thinking about splitting the main dormitory at Beudy into two separate bedrooms. Various reasons have prompted this (reduced usage by large groups particularly since Covid, wanting to attract people who feel more comfortable in a more private space (including families) and the ability to offer separate male/female rooms where appropriate). The positive reaction to the work done with the bedrooms at High Moss has also led us to think it would be a good move. Before we get into the detail we thought we’d ask you for your thoughts. So that we don’t clog up the website, please send me an email (billdeakin@yahoo.com) if you have any. Thanks

Organising a meet

Just a follow up from Mark’s post about organising a meet, if anyone wants to use Beudy Mawr as a base, Steve Gregory and myself are more than happy to help. If you wanted it to be part of the Club’s Outdoor Meets programme, the best place to start is by contacting Helen Pritchard who can best advise on available dates within the programme. Alternatively, if you wanted to dip a toe in the water, just look at the programme to make sure there are no clashes, and then book with me. You can publicise the meet on the website, the Club’s Facebook page and through Meetstaff. Or you can get a few mates together and do it a bit less formally. If you haven’t been to Beudy before, I can ‘walk’ you through the place, although everything is pretty straightforward. You can decide how you want to run things – have a focus (walking, climbing, running, cycling, etc) or not (people do as they please), organise an evening meal (always good fun around the table) or not, invite families (or not, although the last couple of times I’ve been to Beudy there have been kids there and they have[…]

Beudy Mawr – 75th anniversary weekend – 2 to 4 June

The Club acquired Beudy in 1948, initially on a lease at £8 per annum rent. In 2023, £8 will allow a Member to stay in the hut for one night! To mark the 75th anniversary, the Wardens have decided to postpone the working meet on the weekend of 2 to 4 June and, instead, a weekend of activities and festivities. It is very much a ‘do as you please’ weekend. There will be a Saturday evening anniversary dinner provided by the Wardens and Granville. Apart from that you will need to look after yourselves. Places are going fast – if you want to come, contact Bill Deakin.
