Beudy bookings update

This is how it’s looking over the next couple of months;- This coming weekend (14-16 June) is Dominic’s Gogarth Meet but about half a dozen people have edged their bets on the weather by booking in the hut. Peak Climbing Club are in the weekend after (21-23 June) with 11 spaces booked and to end the month (28-30) June it’s Pete Edgerton’s Slate Trail Meet. Details in Meetstaff – contact Pete direct if you want to book on the Meet. In July, long-time regulars OBEC (Old Bromsgrovian Expeditionary Club) have booked the whole hut for the first weekend (5-7 July). Netty Llewellyn’s Club Meet is on the following weekend (12-14 July). Again, details in Meetstaff and contact Netty direct. Peak Climbing Club are back are back again (they really like the place!) the weekend after (19-21) with 11 spaces booked. Beudy is then available for the rest of July and, going to press, the whole of August. In fact, there are no bookings for September until Lewis Ashton’s Meet (20-22 September). So – plenty of opportunities for you to ‘Get Out There!’. I’m always puzzled by the lack of midweek bookings given the age profile of our membership and the[…]

Beudy bookings update

Surely the weather in the UK can’t continue for much longer (can it!)? Here’s what’s happening at Beudy until the end of (flaming?) June. Next weekend (20/21 May) is quite busy, with parties of 6, 5 and 3 already booked in. The following weekend (27/28), Rob Peppit is bringing a party of 10 from DPC. Strangely, only 2 people (from London MC) have booked for the Early May Bank Holiday weekend, so plenty of room at present. Andy Stewart has organised a last minute Meet for the following weekend (11/12 May) – let Andy know if you are up for it or, indeed, as he says – up to it! Long time regulars (and I mean long time – they have been coming every year for well over 50 years), OBEC have booked the whole hut for the weekend of 18/19 May. Veterans in Sefton have a group session booked for 20-22 May. This takes us to the Late May Bank Holiday weekend. Peak CC, who are frequent visitors to Beudy, have booked the main dormitory (11 bunks) but are wanting more spaces. Let me know as soon as you can if you want to come that weekend so that,[…]

Heaters at Beudy – user information

On a couple of occasions in the last month or so, the heaters in the main dorm and in the dining area have been tampered with, rendering them inoperable. In each case, we have had to call out an electrician to repair and replace the damaged parts at a cost of £95. Steve and I are puzzled as to why people need to mess about with the heaters. They are easy to operate – the first press of the ‘BOOST’ button will give 15 minutes heat, the second press 30 minutes, the third 1 hour, the fourth 2 hours. Once set, the timer counts down to zero. A fifth press returns the timer to zero. We will be putting instruction notices by each heater in the hope that we can avoid any further damage and expense.

Beudy – May Day Bank Holiday weekend

I’ve had a couple of enquiries from BMC clubs wanting to book Beudy for that weekend, one of them exclusively. They seem to be organised well in advance. Although Andy Tomlinson has a Meet at the same time, it is at Craigallan and some people might not be able to ‘get up there’. I’ve spoken to Andy and he has no problem with an ‘alternative’ meet at Beudy. One option is a lads/dads/girls/mums gathering. Is anyone up for organising anything? Other options include Club Members getting off their backsides and doing something at Beudy! If not, I’ll let another somebody else use the hut. Seems a shame though. Yours provocatively, Bill
