Hi Everyone The 2020 Rucksack Club Calendar has just gone to the printers and we should get delivery in a couple of weeks – just in time for your Christmas shopping. A huge thank you to the talents and support of John Payne and Mel Cranmer, and contributions from around 50 members (in front of or behind the lens). The calendar features 50 shots of Rucksackers engaged in the many activities of the Club – mountaineering, climbing and hill-walking of course, but also in action on skis, snowboards and mountain bikes; wild swimming, via-ferrataing, ultra-running, ice-climbing and deep-water soloing. It’s a great record of a year-in-the-life of The Rucksack Club (every photo was taken in the equivalent month the year before) and would be a fitting addition to your kitchen wall at home, as well as a great stocking filler. If that wasn’t reason enough to buy one (or more!) then ALL PROFITS will go to the BMC Access & Conservation Trust (Charity no. 1089516) to promote sustainable access to cliffs, mountains and open countryside by facilitating education and conservation projects across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Mike Dent writes: Tom Waghorn has donated his large library of Mountain books for sale to members in aid of Club funds. We shall be holding sales, initially at the Dinner, and then at subsequent Club functions. The attached list [click here] will be priced at a maximum of £5 per book, many of which are in excellent or mint condition. In addition there will be a considerable number of Cicerone guidebooks covering the UK and Europe, in good condition, with a similar general asking price of 50p per book. Note that this is by no means the complete list: those members helping with transport simply do not have room in their vehicles – we need space to pack our toothbrushes for the Dinner Weekend!

Tom is a 28-year-old climber and writer based in North Wales. He has a penchant for trad, winter and alpine climbing – the bigger and harder, the better. Tom is an acclaimed outdoor writer, and you can read some of his published pieces on his website www.tomlivingstone. com, where you will also see some superb photography.
