Skye Meet GBMH 1-7 Oct 22

The annual Skye meet is 1 to 7 October this year spending 6 nights in the Glen Brittle Memorial Hut at a cost of £120 (£20 pppn). At the moment there are plenty of spaces spare but they can’t be guaranteed for the club for much longer as confrontational payment is required soon. If you’ve been meaning to book but haven’t got round to (or haven’t received an email asking you to confirm) or would like to come and enjoy the many highlights of Skye and the isolation of Glen Brittle then please contact me (as per the hand book) ASAP. As well as the Cuillin there is much else to do on Skye – walking at all grades, cycling, climbing, kayaking, scrambling, chilling, etc. Gary Bunting

UPDATE – Gogarth Meet 25 and 26 June – Helen and Dominic Oughton

With less than ten days to go before Gogarth 2022 we’ve already got over sixty Rucksackers and guests planning to join in the fun, but there’s plenty of room on the beach for more. Message me if you haven’t already reserved your burgers (veggie or otherwise) or want a climbing / biking / sandcastle-building partner. Also, a couple of minor updates: – The road between South Stack and the Porth Dafarch Beach / Valley of the Rocks campsite is currently closed. You need to make a short detour through Holyhead which picks up the road leading direct to the beach (Porth Dafarch Road). Only 5mins out of the way if you don’t get lost (no need to go all the way to Trearddur Bay). – The parking at South Stack is £5 per day (coins in the meter or pay in the cafe) or FREE to RSPB members – bring your card! – New for 2022 – Helen is planning to organise some Beach Yoga. Details to follow soon. … apart from that, all details as previous – see below. After the “virtual” zoom version in 2020, and the reduced capacity affair last year, the Gogarth Meet will (fingers crossed!)[…]

Helsby/Frodsham Meet, Saturday June 18th 2022.

Another shout-out for this…..so far, no what-I-call ‘full blood Rucksackers’ have put their hands up for this one just the ‘half-blood’ ex-Anabasis. It will be great to get together after too long and better still if we can introduce some newcomers to ‘Our Manor.’ Meeting time/venue for all will be 10.30 am at Beacon Hill (Frodsham Hill) car park WA6 6BG. Walk distance 7-8 miles, climbing standard Exceptionally Severe (perhaps). Afterwards, a pub, and weather permitting, with a beer garden. Probably be 2.30 pm or later by the time we get to the pub so bring some hill food. Climbing host Rob Hastings, walk host Dave Atkinson. It would be appreciated if you could let me know if you are planning to join us, for either the walk or the climb (or just the pub, it’s allowed, you’ll still get your Meet attendance mark). Contact: Please Email me dave.atkinson27@gmail.com OR phone/text me on 07878481541 Thank you😊.

Meet this weekend – Old County Tops from High Moss

Coordinators – Helen and Rae Pritchard There are plenty of spaces still available on this meet so please come and joint us for a Midsummer’s Walk from High Moss visiting the summits of the Old Counties (pre-1974) of Lancashire, Westmorland and Cumberland. This is a fairly long walk about 40 miles with at least 10000 ft of ascent. The route entails climbs of Coniston Old Man, Helvellyn and Scafell Pike on a round trip from High Moss. We will have plenty of daylight, so if conditions permit, it will be an early start to get back in reasonable time. A meal will be provided on Saturday night. If the walk sounds a bit too far then please come and do your own thing, you will be very welcome all the same. Please contact us you intend to come. Details in the handbook.

Recent Updates to the Completions List

Our Keeper of the Lists, Gordon Adshead, writes: The latest edition of the Completions list may be read or downloaded by -> ABOUT -> COMPLETIONS Or click here. The previous edition included the Munro Completions of Kevin Wheeler and  three ex-Anabasis members:  Stan Eccles, Mike Hart and Margaret Hart. I have just added the Munro Completions of two more ex-Anabasis members: Peter Simpson and Simon Rogers. All of these were achieved before they joined the Rucksack Club. Pete Simpson deserves a special mention as he has also completed the Corbetts, Grahams, Donalds and Wainwrights.  He has also visited over 1505 of the 1556 Marilyns.   I suspect he is up in Scotland now as he has not had time to let me know some rough completion dates I must also congratulate John Allen who has just completed the Corbetts at the age of 83. John decided to take things carefully and take three days to visit his last hill Beinn a Chaisgen Mor. Day 1 – to walk in from Poolewe to biviy outside Carn Mor at the end of Fionn Loch. Day 2 – to climb the hill and bivi a second night at Carn Mor Day3 – to walk[…]

Multiple BMC membership refund

There is a process for BMC members who are members of more than one BMC affiliated club (or individual BMC members who are also members of a club) to reclaim their multiple BMC membership payments. Club members claiming multiple membership refunds can ask for the refund to be paid to themselves or to the club. The refund can also be used to upgrade from Club Membership to full Individual Membership. So, if you are in more than one BMC affiliated club and wish to claim a multiple membership refund, download the refund form from the BMC website (search for “BMC Multiple Club Membership Refund Form”), complete it and return it to the BMC before the end of June. (N.B. if you have claimed back your multiple fees previously, there is no need to make a new claim. Provided all your clubs have paid your subscription to the BMC for the current year you should be sent an automatic refund after 30 June.)

Drop in and say hello

Many Club members will be making their way to the North of Scotland this summer. I live in Ardgay near Bonar Bridge which is on the route north to Ben Hope, Ben More Assynt, Convial, Klibreck and numerous Corbetts. If you are passing, do drop in and say hello. Tea and cake is always on offer. I might even be able to join you for the day. Kevin Wheeler
