50 years of High Moss May

High Moss at 50. May 18/19/20th 2018. Jean and Andy Llewellyn High Moss was officially opened by Frank Kiernan on the 18th of May 1968. So fifty years to the day will be Friday 18th May 2018. We therefore intend arriving at High Moss earlier that week so that celebrations can commence on the Friday. Hopefully the weather will be kind and a couple of good walks are planned for the Friday and Saturday and also climbing on the local crags, or of course just come along and do what you please. There are already a good number booked on the meet (quite a lot of camper vans) so there is still room within the hut. Or for a quite night camping could be a good idea! Food will be provided for the Saturday evening celebrations, but please bring your own booze or other refreshments. It would also be good to have a display of pictures from ‘down the years’ particularly from the early days of the hut or other notable events. So please bring along on the day or ideally send copies in advance. To ensure we have enough provisions please email Jean (see handbook for contact details) by[…]

Beudy: Easter Week

Bill Deakin writes: What with everything else to think about, many of you will have overlooked the fact that Beudy is reserved for Club use from this Friday until the following weekend. At present, only 2 people have booked in and that is for the Easter Bank Holiday weekend so there is plenty of room for you to go and ‘get out there’. The forecast is not that bad and even if the weather is poor, you can still gather round the stove in the dining room and plan your next adventure. Steve has done a lot of work on the chimney breast. Have a look at the picture – we hope you agree that it is ‘in keeping’ with the rest of the place. If planning to go please let Bill know how many places you want to book.

Beudy photo appeal

With the 70th anniversary coming up on 21/22 April, Steve and I thought it would be great to have a selection of photos of people enjoying (?) themselves at the hut. We are particularly after those kinds of picture where people are around the dinner table or relaxing in the lounge or outside, but if you have shots of Club Members actually climbing, walking or running they would be equally welcome. We’ve asked before but we didn’t get much of a response. Please take the trouble to dig out your lantern slides, slides, prints, negatives and computer files and send them to us in the next week or so. If it isn’t digital, contact either of us and we’ll sort something out. Thanks in advance.

Winter Alpine Meet 2018

And so it starts – WAM’18: We have 19 members and guest and more snow than we have ever had on the meet during the past 12 years that the club has been running its Winter Alpine Meet. We also have the youngest guest to ever attend a RC winter alpine meet – Josh Nasse. That will please the New Members’ Secretary 🙂 On Monday Gus and I reconnoitred the Tete de la Sallaz (2026m) as a possible route to the Pointe d’Areu (2462m). From the little know ski resort of Romme above Cluses we were able to use the ski tow for the princely sum of 2 euros! That saved 25 minutes of up hill.

SunRock 2018 – Sierra de Prades, Catalunya

The (almost) full gang of 22 sunrockers are now  settled into our cosy wooden houses in Prades (we’re just waiting for Paul and Elaine who have had to dig themselves out of Hayfield before catching the Santander ferry!) and cracking on with the business of sunrocking. There’s been plenty of rock and a surprising amount of sun (given the shoddy forecast a few days ago and 6″ of snow last week!)  Here are a few photos to give you a gist of the fun and you can follow day by day progress on our blog at https://rockaroundtheworld.co.uk/category/rucksack-club/sunrock-2018/
