Froggatt Edge

So, I went to see if crag was dry at 1pm yesterday. It was and even a couple of guys climbing..however the sky was blackening and the thunder closing in. It arrived as a deluge! Passed through and I clung to the thought that the warm rock might repel the damp…as long as it didn’t rain anymore ….but it did …in bucket loads! Our local brook has come over the bridges (impressive) and even the most optimistic me must concede that Froggatt might be err unclimbable! Underground is probably totally inaccessible…so hey ho, Stockport Climbing wall it will be. I’ll get down about 6pm. See you later (and anyone who decides not to bother, you are excused). Jim

Froggatt Meet 31-07-19

Oh this weather is difficult! The forecast keeps predicting heavy rain…but no rain so far in Chinley area! If we do get the downpours they predict then Froggatt will not happen and in anticipation of just that I had half a plan to offer a caving trip down P8 (Perryfoot area), but Iv’e just walked the dog and the streams are still in full spate from Saturdays weather..so I guess even caving is not advisable…I really don’t want to go to Stockport wall but it could become necessary! I will post again before midday tomorrow and let you know whats happening.

Problems at Beudy

Problem 1. The boiler has packed up so there is no hot water at present. We are waiting for the parts so the plumber can sort it out – hopefully the system will be operating by this time next week. Problem 2. Not really a problem, more of a rant. Between last Saturday and yesterday morning, someone’s vehicle has hit the wooden post protecting the low stone wall. It must have been with some force because the post was knocked into the wall itself, shunting the whole thing forward by about 6 inches. Accidents happen but no one has owned up or left a note. I’ve repositioned the post so even the stupidest driver can see it, assuming they know how to use their mirrors! Rant over.

Tour de France

Just had an email from Geoff Bell which reminded me of all our Tour exploits. For you newer members i used to arrange (perhaps arrange should be disarrange) a trip to see stages when they were largely up north in Europe. I think Geoff and i were the only members who did them all. This years tour started in Brussels and went up the Mur de Gremont (or Gerardsbergan in Flemish). We were idling up the bottom slopes when we were passed by a young poser in all the gear, flash bike etc – Geoff got on his wheel saddlebags flapping and cruised up behind him – the guy accelerated, Geoff stayed on his well and the cruised past him to show who was boss (i suppose nobody had told him about all the long distance records Geoff had held ) Another trip Geoffs seat post bust , he was quite happy to cycle out of the saddle all day – but a bit of a trespass on a building site found an exact fix for the post. We also enjoyed sleeping with the coca cola girls one night and enjoyed Simons help in discovering gourmet food at little local[…]
