Beudy Mawr – Cec’s Spring Bank Holiday Meet – 26 to 28 May

Just a reminder – if you are coming on Cec’s ‘do what you want’ climbing/walking/running/cycling/whatever weekend, he has delegated the Saturday evening catering to me (well, not delegated as much as I didn’t want to inflict his cooking on you!). Better let me know that you are coming – he’ll only forget to tell me! If you let me know by the Tuesday before (22nd May) I can lay supplies in. Thanks. PS Cec would have sent this reminder but he forgot ……!!

New Mills Torrs (Again!)

The built in umbrella at the Torrs came to the rescue again, keeping all but the top of the crag reasonably dry. A selective turnout, but a good tally of E-points. Andy on Nutshrinker John on The Arête Chris on The Flake … And John on Redemption of a grit pegging anti-christ There was even time for a couple of ascents of Bionics Wall and a bit of bolt clipping under the floodlights Good decision to move the meet from Anglezark – fingers crossed for better weather at Standing Stones next week.

Pennine Way record attempt

Dave Stevens is attempting to break Mike Hartley’s 29year old Pennine Way Record. Mike is aware of this attempt and has sent me the following email: It’s occurred to me that many members may be interested in this up coming attempt. Would you mind putting some info on the RC site? As you know he starts the 268 miles from Edale at 4 am Friday 11th. He can be checked out at www.268miles.co.ok and his progress can be followed on http://live.opentracking.co.uk/davestevens2018? Best Regards Mike (Hartley)

Wester Ross Meet; 26-28 May 2018

Inken Blunk, Meet co-ordinator, writes: The meet is now full and, regrettably, the hut location in the village of Aultbea makes camper van parking nearby quite awkward. If you are travelling in the area, there are “free” van sites on the A832 Gairloch – Laide road as well as the minor road from Lade to Mellon Udrigle. There are camp sites at Gairloch, Poolewe & Laide. Feel free to call in at the hut of an evening : Ronnan Cottage, 7, Aultbea, Achnasheen IV22 2JA ; OS 19 NG 873/891. The hut entrance is behind the post office.

New Mills Torrs – Wednesday evening meet

It was one of those evenings when there’s no way anyone in their right minds would try to go climbing – unless it was an evening meet. As it was, meet leader Deakin called it right – there was dry rock and climbing to be had, despite the blizzard of halestones! We managed a few classics like Mather Crack, Alcove Crack and Electric Circus, a couple of bolted routes on the viaduct, and more importantly shared the discovery of outdoor climbing with a great bunch of (very hardy!) MUMCers. Grand evening!
