Another bit of forward planning: if you are interested in a week hutting in the Presanella / Adamello area followed by a week of via ferrata and hutting in the Brenta Dolomites please get in touch. The first week is 31st August to 7th Sept and will not be in the AAC newsletter. The second week is 7-15th September and will be in the AAC newsletter. I will limit the second week to 8, as larger groups are harder to deal with, both on the ground and in terms of booking huts. You can do either week or both weeks, or fit it in with your other plans.

A few people have asked me when the Gogarth Meet is next year – they’re just planning other trivial events like weddings etc and making sure it doesn’t clash, of course 😉 ! Its been over 30 years since i was in the Berger, with a large club team of Rucksack,Karabiner,and Black and Tans cavers, so i am currently in the process of applying to the French authority for a 10 day permit to rig the cave.The permits are allocated from June to October with 3 alternative periods in each month running from 1st, 11th, 21st. of the month.The Berger was the first cave to be pushed to over a 1000 meters and was the deepest cave in the world from 1956 until around 1970.Having been in the cave twice i know what is needed to successfully reach the bottom @ -1122 m.Around 34 pitches from 5m. to 60m. needing 900m of static rope and 100+ crabs/maillons.In reality is like abseiling an alpine route then jumaring back up in the dark.The Berger is a classic caving trip and is usually on the agenda for any experienced fit caver.I am hoping to get a team of around 15 keen, committed,experienced people involved to help plan logistics, buy all we need in the way of rope, bags, “dinghy for lake cadoux” if its there!! caving insurance etc. etc.The trip involves masses of complicated rope work,traverse[…]

Wednesday Walk: 12ml from Tideswell Market Sq [151759] via Litton, Housely, Little Longstone, Water-cum-Jolly. Pub Packhorse Inn, Little Longstone. Details Tim Taylor. Wednesday evening climbing: Awesome Walls, Stockport from 6pm. Weekend: Annual Dinner at the Queen Victoria, Llanberis. Friday evening: Nigel Dennis was the first person in the world to kayak around Cape Horn in December 1977. Since then, he has been involved with expeditions by kayak to South Georgia, Antarctica and Easter Island.He and Eila Wilkinson will present an illustrated talk of their experiences at 9 pm in the Gwynedd Lounge. Saturday: 10am start from the hotel. The plan is to visit Moel Cynghorian with, hopefully, views of Cloggy. Sunday: 10.30am start from the Hotel. A minutes silence will be taken at 11 am at Pentre Castell behind the hotel before moving on to explore the industrial history of Llanberis Slate quarries [bring a torch].
