Beudy bookings update

Just a quick update. In October, various parties have booked for odd days and the weekend of 22/23 but there is plenty of room if you want to go. The hut is booked out on the last weekend of the month (29/30) for the unveiling ceremony of the picture of Garth, the Anabasis Club’s home for many years. In November, something is happening on every weekend. On the weekend of 5/6, Rob Broomhead has booked the hut on behalf of the Powsers MC, who will be helping Rob celebrate his big birthday! The following weekend is Audrey Russell’s Club Meet (see Meetstaff for details). Penny Collier has booked 7 spaces on the weekend of 19/20 and on the last weekend (26/27) the hut has been booked by Sue Whittle on behalf of the Red Rope club. The hut is available any midweek. For anyone wanting some peace and quiet, or perhaps wanting to avoid Christmas and New Year altogether, there are no bookings at present in December.

Anabasis ‘unveiling’ event, Beudy Mawr, 28-30 October.

Being unable work out how to update the Calendar info, this Post will have to do. I have started taking bookings for this one, and it would be good to know by Saturday 15th October if you are planning to be there, for one night, two nights or just either the Saturday or the Sunday. There will be a ‘bring and share’ buffet on the Saturday evening. Bill and Jan Murphy are acting as information exchange for this, just to avoid a scenario where everyone brings sausage rolls and no-one brings cake. Or beer. Please contact me, Dave Atkinson, to book your stay at the Hut. Thank you. dave.atkinson27@gmail.com

The 2023 Calendar has arrived!

The eagerly anticipated 2023 Rucksack Club Charity calendar – in support of Climbers Against Cancer – has just rolled off the press, just in time for the stocking-filler / calendar-buying season. This years edition has contributions from over 70 Rucksackers (in front of and behind the lens), and post-pandemic it’s great to be able to report that EVERY SHOT was taken in the equivalent month of the previous year. What a tremendous demonstration of the diversity and vitality of The Club! I might be a bit biased, but I think it’s the best yet, and the quality of the images that have been contributed by Rucksack members is at the heart of this. I know you are itching to get your hands on a copy (or copies!), and I will follow up with a post with all the details shortly. In the meantime, this is a huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed photos, and especially those whose photos didn’t make the final cut into the calendar. We had about three options for every one of the available 50 or so slots (more or less, depending on how active that particular month was) and it was a desperately difficult job[…]

Anabasis, Garth, 60th Anniversary

This year – 2022 – it is just 60 years since a Member of the then one year-old Anabasis Mountaineering Club chanced upon a disused outbuilding at Garth Farm, near to Capel Curig. This former cattle shed went on to become ‘The Hut’, home to the Anabasis unitl the demise of the Club in 2021. Commencing with digging out the ankle-deep cattle droppings that covered the floor, the building was much improved over the years, culminating in the addition of a washroom/toilets facility in November 2014. Hoping the attached link will work (!) this is The Garth Song, dating from 1980 when The Hut had just reached its majority, at eighteen years of age. Link to the Garth Song
