Beudy bookings update

Happy new Year! This is how its looking over the next few months. Quite busy this coming weekend (20th to 22nd) but it then looks like the hut could be empty until the end of April, apart from two people booked in for one night on 5th February and Penny Collier’s Club Meet on the following weekend (please contact Penny for further details). Steve and I can’t recollect the last time we had so few bookings at this time of year.

Rucksack Club Survey 2022

We would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the Rucksack Club. The survey contains a number of questions covering all aspects of the Club and will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.   Each section also has free text box where you can provide any additional comments you may have. The survey will run until 31 January 2023, after which the results will be analysed by the committee and anonymised results shared with the membership.   The purpose of the survey is to help guide the committee in running the Rucksack Club over the next few years.   Should the feedback result in a direction change for the Club then that will follow the normal governance process (AGM etc.). We have constructed the survey to allow you to complete this anonymously, but would encourage you to populate as much of the demographic data as you are comfortable with. This data significantly increases the value of the survey and insights we can make. To complete the survey click here https://forms.gle/KviQrttSgg6Wcwzt8 If you experience any problems completing the survey please contact Mark Jenneson.

Marsden-Edale 7 January 2023: Two halves make a whole? Update

I have run out of ideas as to how I can do a single M2E as a result of the planned rail strikes, so I will do the circuit from Edale Ian [Helliwell] has suggested [the Two halves make a whole]. I am happy to coordinate if anyone else would like to join me. I plan to leave the public car park in Edale at 8am and take the route proposed: Ringing Roger, Madwoman’s Stones, Upper Ashop, Alport Castles, Grains-in-the-Water, Hern Clough, Bleaklow Head – then return to Edale via the traditional M-E route. Depending upon rate of progress, enthusiasm and the weather, there is always the option of shortening this route by heading down Upper North Grain from Alport Moor if need be. The plan is to meet up with anyone who has been able to overcome the transport issues and is doing the traditional route around Bleaklow Head and return with them. If anyone wishes to join me please contact me via President@Rucksackclub.org and/or let Ian know. Andy

‘2022 – The Year in Pictures’ for the Gallery

As in previous years, I’m on with the round up of pictures depicting the Club’s activities during the year. If you want any of your snaps to be considered for inclusion, please send me your ‘best of …’ as soon as possible. Some of the CAC calendar climbing shots will feature but I’m keen to use images that reflect the wide range of what we do, whether its Type 2 fun or not! Landscape, portrait, people, places – all welcome (but only your best!). I know that some of you have sent me pictures during the year – please have another look in your collections and send me your photographic creme de la creme again (it will at least save me having to cruelly throw some of them onto the cutting room floor). And please remember – I know little about fancy formats. Just send me jpegs as email attachments, with all the numbers changed to a title people can understand (a very brief description and photo credit is enough). Looking forward to being inundated. In the meantime, Happy New Year to all!

Two halves make a whole? Marsden-Edale 7th January 2022

Marsden-Edale 7th January 2022 Due to the planned train strike for 6-7 January the Marsden-Edale will, once again, be a challenge in more than just the usual sense. However, in the words of Baldrick “I have a cunning plan…”   Given that it is highly likely that there will be no rail services on the day it is probable that a number members will find it difficult/impossible to arrange appropriate transport for the single. Given that the Meet is so popular, along with the social get together afterwards at the Ramblers, one option considered is whether some members would like to do a ~20 mile walk from Edale starting at 8am going via Ringing Roger, Madwoman’s Stones, Upper Ashop, Alport Castles, Grains-in-the-Water, Hern Clough, Bleaklow Head – then return to Edale via the traditional M-E route… the aim would be to meet up with members doing the traditional M-E route at Bleaklow Head around 1pm. Given mobile phones/GPS this should be very possible! If any members are interested in this alternative could they get in touch with me and I can then arrange for someone to co-ordinate this “Two halves make a whole” route allowing a good day out of[…]
